Earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Dominguez hills. Completed a doctorate degree in Government from Claremont Graduate University in 1990 with emphasis on public administration and public policy. A strong man of faith, married with four adult sons and a grandson.
Professional experience involved working as a production planning supervisor for the largest foam fabricator in the United States. Subsequently served as the Program Coordinator of the Regional Occupational Program (ROP), for Compton Unified School District. The ROP is a job training program designed to equip high school juniors and seniors and anyone 16 years or older with marketable job skills. In that capacity, I was responsible for the overall management of the program including oversight and facilitation of the training curricular and budget; course schedules, contract negotiations and coordination with private post-secondary schools in the operation of community classrooms; working with subject-matter experts in the development of course curricular for State approval; and the development and presentation of annual accountability report card to the school board and the State of California Department of Education. My involvement with the ROP spanned over seven years of which the first four were with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, as part of the countywide ROP.
My most recent professional experience was with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC), a regional water resource agency, supplying more than 60 percent of the imported water used in Southern California, where I served in various capacities for nearly 23 years. My most recent responsibilities included monthly oversight and reporting on the State Water Project, the single most expensive program of MWDSC; served as a key staff member in the implementation of the MWD/PVID Land Fallowing Program; and coordinated and reported on hundreds of ongoing contracts. Prior to my last assignment, I served as a key member of the corporate budget office and as a resource to the operating divisions in budget development and cost monitoring of an annual average budget if $1.4 billion for more than 12 years.
Since retirement in 2014, I have been engaged in philanthropic ventures including volunteering two days a week at my local church, helping with developing budget and business processes. Additionally, I have also been serving in an adjunct capacity at a local community college teaching an introductory course in American Government and Politics.
I am an avid student of politics with the capacity to see beyond the obvious. I have served as the publisher of the “Eagle” and editor of the “Clarion”, both were community newsletters dedicated to addressing governance issues in Africa, and issues affecting the Nigerian community in the United States. Both publications are now defunct for lack of funding.
